What emergency vehicles are allowed to do

When the needs of the emergency require it, emergency vehicles may: park or stop regardless of the parking rules; cross intersections even on a red light or a stop sign — with due precaution, such as reducing speed; exceed the speed limits, keeping a wide safety margin at intersections and crowded places; disregard direction-change indications; and use high beams and searchlights.

These exceptions are valid ONLY when the drivers are using their light towers (torretas) and special audible devices AND are on an emergency or assistance call — and they never relieve them of the duty to drive with due precaution. Using torretas or sirens outside an assistance call is prohibited (Fuente: Reglamento de la Ley de Tránsito y Vialidad del Estado de Yucatán, Artículos 283 y 284).
