Who handles traffic accidents

In Yucatán, the Secretaría takes cognizance of traffic accidents: it issues an informative report (parte informativo) or an expert opinion (peritaje), as appropriate, and writes up the infractions committed by those responsible. This is separate from any additional administrative, civil, or criminal liability.

When the facts of an accident may constitute a crime prosecuted ex officio, the Secretaría — with the peritaje or parte informativo — places the presumed responsible parties and the vehicles at the disposal of the Ministerio Público.
